Name: Kate Wood
Background: Spacer
Story: Kate (some call her Kat, but her real name's Katherine) was born in 2161 on her parent's ship, two earthborn who decided to spend their life in the space. They decided to become mercenaries because of money matter. Unfortunately, during a sailing through the Tikkun System, their ship bumped into a big Quarian ship, the Gahkis, with whom they had a devastating fight. The Quarians already knew the mercenaries and they never got on in their buisness relationships. The Quarians didn't want to destroy completely their enemie's ship, because they wanted to plunder it first, recover some intact part and then leave. So they started to weaken the ship and, once they arrived at it, they set on fire and killed its crew, Kate's parents included. Kate was only a few months old. She was crying desperately in her cradle, when a female Quarian, Uriyah, heard her. When she saw the baby, she rushed into the room to save her, even if some males didn't want to. Uriyah persisted to rescue Kate from the flames and to bring her onto the Gahkis. Kate has been raised by the female Quarian on the ship and sometimes they lived on a garden planet. Once Kate was sufficiently grownup, Uriyah told her the truth about her past. Kate was speechless and shoked but, at the same time, she appreciated her frankness. Even if her crew did horrible things, Uriyah was the one who raised her and everyone accepted her without judging her. Kate integrated herself among the other Quarians quite easily and now her best friend is Sela, with whom she fights against the Reapers. Moreover, as she lived the most part of her life with Quarian people, she had the opportunity to learn a lot about their abilities and technologies.
Kate usually associated with quarians, but that does not mean that she did the same with other species. The recruitment for the Reapers War has been a good occasion: at the military camp she knows Alex, the N7 Paladin she falls in love with.

Storia: Kate (qualcuno la chiama Kat, ma il suo vero nome è Katherine) è nata sulla nave dei suoi genitori nel 2161, due terresti che avevano deciso di trascorrere la loro vita nello spazio. Per via di problemi economici, i due decisero di intraprendere la professione mercenaria. Purtroppo, durante una navigazione nel sistema Tikkun per affari, la nave dei genitori di Kate s’imbatté in una grossa nave Quarian, la Gahkis, con la quale ebbe un disastroso conflitto. I Quarian conoscevano la banda mercenaria dei due e soprattutto non avevano mai avuto dei buoni rapporti. I Quarian non volevano distruggere completamente la nave, perché intendevano prima razziarla, recuperarne le parti intatte e poi abbandonarla al suo triste destino nello spazio. Così i Quarian iniziarono ad indebolire la nave avversaria e, una volta approdati su di essa, incendiarono e uccisero tutti gli uomini, compresi i genitori di Kate. Lei aveva solo qualche mese di vita allora. Mentre piangeva nella sua culla, sulla nave c’era il caos. Una Quarian di nome Uriyah udì il pianto disperato della bambina che rischiava di essere ingoiata dalle fiamme, e, una volta trovatola, si precipitò per salvarla. Altri Quarian intendevano disfarsene, ma quella li pregò insistentemente affinché potesse tenere la piccola. Kate fu cresciuta dalla sola Quarian sulla nave e di tanto in tanto aveva vissuto su qualche pianeta giardino. Una volta diventata abbastanza grande, Uriyah le disse tutta la verità riguardo al suo passato. Kate ne rimase scioccata, ma, allo stesso tempo, aveva apprezzato la sincerità della Quarian. Anche se i suoi compagni avevano fatto cose terribili, Uriyah l’aveva cresciuta e gli altri l’avevano accettata e tenuta con loro senza giudicarla. Per fortuna la ragazza riuscì ad integrarsi tra i Quarian e ora la sua migliore amica è Sela, la quale oggi combatte al suo fianco contro i Razziatori. Inoltre, avendo vissuto gran parte della sua vita con i Quarian, ha avuto il privilegio di imparare moltissimo dalle loro abilità tecnologiche.
Kate ha frequentato per lo più quarian, ma ciò non significa che non sia mai entrata in contatto con altre specie. Il reclutamento per la guerra contro i Razziatori si è rivelato un'ottima occasione: al campo militare conosce Alex, il Paladino N7 di cui s'innamora.
